About Us

Boiling Springs High School (BSHS) is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northern portion of Spartanburg County in the Upstate Region of South Carolina. One of two high schools in Spartanburg School District Two, BSHS serves the Boiling Springs community as well as those areas west of the line dividing Boiling Springs areas schools from the Chesnee areas schools.

The population of the Boiling Springs attendance area has been increasing rapidly. Since 1990, the community has experienced a growth rate of 114.48% and population since 2000 shows a 53.5% increase. The population over the next few years is expected to continue to grow. The rapid growth of the areas has been attributed to the increase of industries in the surrounding areas, resulting in many new housing developments emerging in this part of Spartanburg County.

Spartanburg County School District Two is widely considered as an outstanding area to raise families because of its prime location near the intersection of both Interstates 85 and 26; the ease of access to the metropolitan areas of Charlotte, North Carolina, Greenville, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia; and the close access of major transportation facilities. Additionally, Spartanburg County School District Two is regarded by many as an outstanding school system with an impeccable reputation. BSHS has experienced growth during the past few years. In August of 2017 we are expected to enroll 1,775 students in grades 10-12. Physically, we have reached maximum capacity in our current facility and are building a new school facility, which is adjacent to our current facility, with the capacity to educate 2,000 students.

BSHS has a diverse student population that is reflective of our community as a whole. Our student population is currently 72.2% Caucasian, 13.6% African American, 8.1% Hispanic, 5.2% Asian, and 2.3% other. Additionally, we have a growing Limited English Proficiency (LEP) population of 257 students. Most importantly, our Graduation Rate is 90%, and 92% of all students who have graduated will enter postsecondary school to advance their education. Our students are college and career ready when they exit our school!

The faculty of BSHS is comprised of 96 teachers. Our student/teacher ratio is currently at 19:1. As part of our professional staff we have a full-time Literacy Coach, a full-time Math Coach, and a shared ESOL Coach. Our Special Education Department consists of 6 classroom teachers and one instructional assistant who provide a rigorous and relevant education for those students with IEPs through supplemental assistance for resource diploma students as well as through the District Occupational Program for certificate students. Most of our teachers hold advanced degrees. With approximately one-fourth of our teaching staff holding National board Certification, 22% holding Gifted/Talented endorsement, and seven teachers with Advanced Placement credentials. We have educators who constantly seek to learn more about their profession in order to improve their teaching skills.

Our school is fortunate to have parents and community members who share our goal of providing an outstanding educational experience for all of our students. Whether it is an academic, athletic, or artistic event, our activities are well attended by both family members and community stakeholders alike. Their support is unwavering as can be seen by attendance at Parent Conference Nights, the Friday night football games, or the biannual drama production as well as any other event featuring our students. We have unique strengths and challenges associated with the community we serve. Among our greatest strengths is that all stakeholders are supportive of the high standards we have set for our students and are active in working with us towards our goals.

Our Board of Trustees, Superintendent, and District Office personnel are unfailingly supportive of our initiatives and stand behind us as we strive to provide the necessary resources to achieve our goal of educating every student every day to the highest of his or her unique abilities. With continued focus on the goals at hand and with the dedicated and continued support of our teachers, staff, families, students, and community members, Boiling Springs High School will continue to be an outstanding school!
