State Report Card

State Report Cards Released

On November 29, 2018 the South Carolina State Department of Education made public the State’s new report cards. The release marks the first time since 2014 that schools have received an accountability rating from the state. Under the new system, school districts continue to receive a report card, but are no longer rated.

We are excited that our community now has access to the important data contained in our new State Report Card. Everyone in our district has worked tirelessly to learn the new rubrics by which we are measured and to comply with all of the reporting requirements. It may take us all some time to become familiar with the new report card, but we feel that when our district families review our data they will be very pleased with what they see. We are particularly proud of the amazing growth we are seeing in both Math and English Language Arts in students grades 3-8. Many of our students showed growth in those areas well-beyond the state average!

According to the SC Department of Education, the new report card website “…provides information on South Carolina's school districts and public elementary, middle and high schools including school ratings and other useful information such as school safety, classroom environment, graduation rate, student academic progress, college and career readiness and additional academic information. A district and school report card is just one piece of information, that, when combined with a student's individual state test results and report card grades, gives parents a more accurate picture of their children's academic experience.”

We encourage our D2 Families to follow the SCDE’s published statement and use the report card as “just one piece of information” when determining your student’s school experience. It is impossible for tests and scales to gauge the full impact of the interpersonal skills, traits, life skills, relationships and soft-skills that our students receive during their time in school. As you will see in our report card, our graduation rate is well above the state average and our high school students, on average, outperformed their South Carolina peers in ELA and Math End-of-Course Testing! This kind of success is the culmination of years of hard work by our students, teachers, administrators, support staff and you, our D2 Families. Our goal has always been to make each D2 graduate College, Career and Citizenship ready!

We also want our families to know that the new report cards are a work-in-progress. The release of these report cards was delayed multiple times by the SCDE due to concerns about the accuracy of the data. We credit the SCDE with the incredible undertaking of combining the State and Federal report card into a single reporting tool, but understand that there will be growing pains.

For this reason, we encourage all of our D2 parents and community members to contact your student’s school or the District office for clarification on anything that is unclear in the report card!
